Once upon a time there was a sweet little girl who always wore a red hooded cap, so everyone called her Little Red Riding Hood.
One day, her mother said, "Grandmother is ill. Take her this basket of treats, but stay on the path and do not talk to anyone along the way."
Little Red Riding Hood promised and set off through the forest.
But before long, she met a wolf.
He was big and cunning, but he acted very friendly.
"Good day, Little Red Riding Hood," said the wolf in a smooth voice. "Where are you going?"
Little Red Riding Hood, who did not yet know how dangerous a wolf could be, told him honestly:
"I am going to visit Grandmother, who is ill. She lives on the other side of the forest."
The wolf immediately came up with a trick.
"Look at all the beautiful flowers growing here," he said kindly. "Why not pick a few for your grandmother?"
While Little Red Riding Hood picked flowers, the wolf ran as fast as he could to Grandmother's cottage.
Grandmother heard the footsteps and did not trust the sound of them.
Quickly, she hid in the wardrobe.
The wolf climbed into her bed, pulled her nightcap over his ears and pretended to be Grandmother.
When Little Red Riding Hood arrived, she thought Grandmother looked rather strange.
"Grandmother, what big ears you have!"
"All the better to hear you with."
"Grandmother, what big eyes you have!"
"All the better to see you with."
"But Grandmother, what big teeth you have!"
"All the better to..."
And the wolf leapt out of bed!
Little Red Riding Hood screamed and ran for the door.
Luckily, a hunter happened to be passing by and heard her cries.
He strode into the cottage and waved his gun.
The wolf was terrified, jumped through the open window and raced into the forest.
As far away as he could.
And no one ever saw him again.
Then Grandmother came safely out of the wardrobe.
A little shaky, but completely unharmed.
Little Red Riding Hood threw her arms around her.
Together with the hunter, they drank warm tea and ate the treats from the basket.
And Little Red Riding Hood had learned her lesson.
From then on, she stayed neatly on the path and did not talk to anyone along the way.
Just as her mother had told her.
